In my opinion therefore though I am not pre-

pared to recommend Inspector Hennessy's dismissal on the

meagre evidence before me, it is not desirable that he should

be retained in the Force longer than can be avoided.

His term of service for which he is now en-

rolled expires in April 1901.

His re-enlistment could then be refused.

Or he could now be called on to resign. If he

refused he could be dismissed.

At the same time I confess that I do not

think there is sufficient evidence to warrant dismissal if

he refused to resign.

The question of his pension if he resigns

under compulsion or is not re-enlisted, is one which I must

leave to Government.

I would remark however that I could not

conscientiously certify his conduct as having been uniform-

ly good.

I enclose copy of his character roll & ske-

leton pension paper in which for the mere purpose of calcu-

lation October has been assumed as date of cessation of

service.
